Salmon Trout River Brook Trout Conditions
Brook Trout
The Salmon Trout River flows through the Huron Mountains near Big Bay — one of the most remote and least-accessible fishing destinations in Michigan. Wild brook trout for anglers willing to earn their fish.
The Huron Mountains north of Marquette are the highest terrain in the Lower 48 states east of the Rockies, and the Salmon Trout River draining that terrain runs cold, clear, and wild. Access requires 4WD roads through Big Bay and considerable walking. Most of the surrounding land is private — the Huron Mountain Club owns significant acreage — so fishing access is limited and requires research before visiting. When you find fishable public water here, the brook trout are exceptional.
