The Michigamme River below the Michigamme Reservoir in Iron County offers brown trout and steelhead fishing in a large UP river accessible near Crystal Falls. Ottawa National Forest land borders much of the accessible reach.
The Michigamme below the reservoir dam near Crystal Falls flows with consistent water releases that create year-round trout habitat. Brown trout and brook trout are present in the accessible river sections. The river is larger than most UP trout streams — requiring more reading of water and longer casts — but the fish are proportionally larger as well.
