The Maple River in Clinton and Gratiot counties provides brown trout fishing in central Michigan accessible from Lansing, Mount Pleasant, and the Tri-Cities. Cold upper sections hold wild fish through the early season.
The Maple River flows through agricultural central Michigan, but cold spring tributaries in its upper reaches maintain trout-suitable water temperatures in the sections near Maple Rapids and Ashley through May and into June.
