Black River Schoolcraft County Trout Fishing Conditions
Brook Trout
The Black River in Schoolcraft County drains a remote section of the Hiawatha National Forest east of Manistique. Classic eastern UP brook trout water — tannin-stained, cold, and lightly fished.
The Schoolcraft County Black River flows through Hiawatha National Forest land near Garnet, providing public access to remote UP brook trout water. This is a different river from the dramatic Black River near Bessemer — smaller, flatter, and more typical of eastern UP streams. Tannin-stained water, dense forest cover, and wild native brookies in consistently cold flows.
